In a nut shell, the Low knob has much the same effect as a Bass knob on your car radio and the Hi knob on the mixer does basically the same thing as your Treble knob on your car radio. So your basic car eq has a two-band equalizer. With most entry level mixers there is a third know available called a Mid.
